RNC 2026 norms, calculated automatically

The RNC norms define how many stages, how many kilometres and how many centralised rankings a bird needs in a season to be homologated in a race category. ThatPigeon calculates them from the results you already have.

What you see on a bird's page

Open a bird that has race results. Under the Norms section you will find:

  • the year selector — pick the season. It defaults to the last year with results.
  • the satisfied norms — green badges reading "Satisfied" for each norm met (Speed, Ace Speed, General, and so on).
  • the norms in progress — for each unfinished norm you see:
    • how many stages, kilometres and centralised rankings you have against what the norm asks for
    • the deficit: "To norm — stages: 2, km: 340" (with centralised rankings too, where they apply)

If the bird has no result with a category in the chosen season, the Norms section says so plainly: "Set the race category on each race to see norm progress."

Race categories are the key

Norms are calculated only from results whose race has a category (Speed, Middle distance, Long distance and so on). With no category, the result does not enter the calculation.

To set the category:

  1. Open the race from the Races tab.
  2. Press Category (under the race details).
  3. Choose a chip: Speed, Middle distance, Long distance, Marathon, Extreme, Speed/Middle, Middle/Long, Long/Marathon.

Races imported from MyLoft arrive with their categories already mapped — you do not have to set them by hand. Details in the guide to migrating from MyLoft.

Results with no category or no distance appear in the footnote: "Results not included — no category or distance: N".

Hybrid races count twice

The Speed/Middle, Middle/Long and Long/Marathon categories are hybrids — a Speed/Middle result counts towards the Speed norm and towards the Middle distance norm. More in race categories.

Substitution

The RNC rules allow substitution: a long-distance race can stand in for a middle-distance stage, a marathon for a long distance, and so on. ThatPigeon applies these rules for you — there is nothing to do by hand.

Substitution is capped category by category: one extreme result stands in for a marathon stage, one marathon for a long-distance stage, two long-distance results for middle-distance stages, and three middle-distance results for speed stages. Two limits go with those caps. Only a pure category substitutes, so a hybrid result stands in for nothing. And there is no chaining: an extreme result covers a marathon stage, never a long-distance one.

The "Assuming general/county rankings" caveat

If you see that line under the norms section, it means your results do not say what level of ranking they were (general, county, club). ThatPigeon counts them optimistically — it assumes they were general or county rankings. If they were really club rankings, your centralised progress would be lower.

This happens with imported results, which usually do not carry the ranking level. It is an honest approximation, not a guarantee.

A tip

If you imported your races before the app had race categories, open each race and set its category. The norms recalculate instantly.
